You have to watch the depth - most 6x9 speakers are deeper than the
stock 6", and the angle of the sheetmetal (both internal and external)
conspire to give you only about 3" of mounting depth - or less if your
speakers have magnets larger than 3.75" diameter.

If you're looking for more bass off the otherwise factory system, I
helped a guy put a pair of 8" subs in the open space behind the two
lower vents (below the stock speaker locations). We used a passive
two-way crossover, and put aftermarket 6" speakers in the stock rear
location. Both were 6 ohm, so the factory head unit can handle the load
without problem. It doesn't get real loud, but it sounds OK and fills
in the bottom end nicely.
