Well, actually Ford stopped using the 9" in the late '80's. Cost too
much. Now they use that 8.8" piece of crap on their F150 trucks. Nope,
the Ford 9" is one of the strongest differentials you can get in stock
form. Plus the ease of gear changes due to the removable third member
makes it an excellent choice for racers. In the big boy races (NASCAR)
they use a nodular iron center section and they even have oil coolers on
them thangs. I don't know if your a racing fan, but if you ever get a
chance to go to a race, whether small time circle or dirt track or the big
boy races, take a stroll through the pits and ask or look to see what rear
ends the teams are using. I'm not too familiar with Chrysler, but I'm sure
they have some good ones too. Just haven't seen any in a racing environment.
