Finally someone with the same experience as me... My '98 stopped all pinging
after I installed headers. I think it's the headers and not the heat shields
but exactly why is still up for debate... The most common theories are a.)
better exhaust scavenging/flow and b.) the headers pull more heat out of the
block and eliminate possible hot spots --or a combination of both.

I just put some headers in my Dak , removed the heat sheilds and the pinging
stopped. Headers or heatsheilds? I dont know...
