Subject: DML: Bed Extender
Joe G. - RE your question on the bed extender. I picked up my new 2000
CC, 4.7, 5 speed last Friday from the dealer, it had been on order since
last November. I had the dealer install a bed liner and and the bed
extender, which I think is a great piece of equipment. The dealer sold it
to me at what he said was his cost $ 240. It can be installed on any pickup
full size or compact and with or without a bed liner although the brackets
for it do go under the liner. The company that makes it is called Amp
Research, they have a web site but I don't have there URL handy, if you do
a search on them it will turn up. All Nissan dealers are authorized dealers
and it is also carried in the Sears auto catalog for $ 189. The only thing
that differs from one application to another is the method they use to
secure it in place as an extender. Dodge uses 2 clips which mount on the
tailgate, while Nissan uses straps that secure to the tailgates locking
mechanism. When the bed extender is not being used as an extender it flips
back into the bed and can be used to secure items, preventing them from
sliding all over the bed. In the mid position between flipping in and out
of the bed it can be lifted out of the vehicle; it weighs 9 1/2 lbs and is
made of heavy gauge aluminum. Hope this helps.
