Yep, good point Andy. The way we used to do it was to load the sand into a
heavy duty garbage bag, tie them off and then put it into the canvas sack.

Just make sure those bags are totally watertight. Mine
aren't (I think I put a small hole in each by accident), and
I have 2 70-lb blocks of solid ice in by bed right now.
They're useless for spreading under the wheels.
