Technical opinion: Not really sure at this point.
"Gut" Feeling: Sensors and timing curve.

I'm going along the same lines as you on this one. If you notice on the
chart, the '99's have the most problems. What I want to know is what did
they change and/or did they change brands/manufacturing plants for the sensors.

Maybe at the picnic next month, i'll have a chance to check out several
more Dakota's.

Here's one more piece that might help though: Looking at the 3923 Autolite
Plugs and then the 5224 (what's recommended), the 3923's don't use a
"Special Projected Power Tip". I installed some 3923's in my Dak (granted
it didn't ping to begin with) and found that the truck ran a lot smoother
than with the 5224's. (Been running some tests with NGK V-Power vs.
Autolites for about two months now.)
