After I sent the last one, I thought I'd better clarify a bit.
My setup (sorry, ASCII drawing):

cat-----muffler

The part between the cat and the muffler should probably not be bigger
than 2.5" diameter. After the muffler, I can't imagine it matters much
because those pipes already have a greater combined area than the single
pipe, and thus aren't a back pressure point.
My setup is 2.5" to the muffler, and 2" from the muffler to the tips.
