Well if the scratch goes past the clear coat and into the primer (which would
be past the base coat too), then you are gonna have to sand down to the
scratch surface and blend in primer, paint and the clear to the panel.If the
scratch is down to metal, you might as well do the whole panel. If the
scratch covers a large surface area, you might be better off having the whole
panel repainted. Blending paint repairs is hard to do. Most of the time
they come out noticeable.
Just dont let it go too long, moisture is a carcinogen to metal.
