I use dental alginate because it is still pliable when it sets. I use it
in the intake and exhaust ports of cylinder heads so I can get a 3D model
of the port shape so I can see where I need to take the die grinder. Only
problem with alginate is it shrinks in a couple hours as it starts to dry
out. So it's lube the runners, pour, let it set, push it out, look at it,
grind, pour another, etc.
Send me a private email if I can purchase some alginate through your mom.
Thanks,
Mike
P.S. Latex is another material I use. It's better than alginate since it
doesn't loose it's shape as it ages, but it costs more than alginate, and I
only need a temporary model when doing heads and intake runners. I use
latex when I want to get the intake runner and cylinder head runners and
put them together to get an overall picture of the port shape and volume,
then figure out if it's aerodynamic enough to make the power I'm looking for.
