I have a reprint of this article. Jardine sent it to me when they sent me
their catalog, I guess just to prove their system is the 'best'. The article
is from SPort Truck, May 1998 issue. Their test vehicle was a 1997 GMC C1500
regular cab short bed pickup. At the time of the dyno runs, the truck had a
mere 2,500 miles on it. It had a Vortec 5.0L V8 with a automatic tranny. The
dyno runs were all done a K&N testing facilities. Here are the results:
OEM Stock System(single outlet muffler; 3" head pipe/2-1/2" downpipes):
161.9hp/227.9 lb-ft torque
Hedman Cat Back System(dual outlet muffler; 3" head pipe/2-1/2" downpipes):
171.1hp/243.6 lb-ft torque
Borla Cat Back System(dual outlet muffler; 3" head pipe/2-1/4" downpipes):
171.5hp/243.9 lb-ft torque
Gibson Cat Back System(single outlet muffler;3" head pipe/3" downpipes):
170.5hp/242.4 lb-ft torque
Jardine Cat Back System(dual outlet muffler; 3" head pipe/2-1/2"
downpipes): 175.4hp/246.1 lb-ft torque
So there ya go, I guess they did win for a bone-stock, not 'broken in' GMC
full size pickup. Other factors I would think come into play like the
different sizes of pipe used for the 'downpipes', varying from 2 1/2", 2
1/4, and 3". Also the use of single and dual outlet mufflers. I just have
never heard one, so I cant comment on the them, just can show ya the
numbers.
