A few thoughts from ME about QuickD versus whatever....

I have the 4.7 TB done already.....its testing.
and the intake should be done by tomarrow. I made a mock up of one already,
but tomarrow we have to figure out welding to make it able to attach to the
crank case vent also.
I should have pics and #s soon.
.
and for the record....I have made a shield for my kits......it didnt help.
The only time its an issue is when the truck is stopped and you are getting
fan wash. Once the truck is moving, there is so much air rushing in, that
all the hot air which wants to rise is going to be pushed back towards the
rear and top of the engine compartment. You can argue performance while
stopped all day, but in order to call it a true cold air the filter would
have to be outside the engine compartment......and on our trucks the only
place that would be possible would be under the bumper.....and then you have
to deal with water and dirt.
The air temp is not as major of an issue as volume. The computer is going
to compensate for air temp variations anyway........the big gains come from
the volume increase.
All the kits out there are going to get hot when the truck comes to a
rest......I have burned myself on several Gen IIs. Its plastic is high
heat....which means it can withstand the heat, not heat proof. But just
like my pipe, once the air starts moving again.......it will cool down. The
only kit that is out there that is really bad is the Air aid, filter too
small, and retains stock flex hose....too expensive. If you can get a deal
on a GenII, go for it......call me and we can tweak it a bit to work
better. But it still has issues of a small filter that is buried in the
corner out of the air flow....and some people say it rubs on the hoodliner,
and a few have cracked. But still a descent kit........but never pay full
price......its only plastic. Should be cheaper.
then there is mine, which is cost effective, available for all of our
trucks, looks pretty good.....and it performs like its supposed to.
Some people have asked about ceramic coatings.......not really needed. Why,
because the only time it helps is when your stopped again. If I were to do
anything to try to help with temps.......I would probably invest about $14
in a box of thermal reflective tape from Cool tech. then wrap the pipes
with it. I did that one of my prototypes.......and it worked pretty good.
but more people wanted the polished look then the kinda ugly reflective tape
look.
But for all you guys making home brew kits......the tape is the way to go.
It will make it look a bit better than just plain sewer pipe......and the
reflectiveness will kinda help shield that plastic which wasnt really
intended for heat.
If any of you ever have questions.........email me, or most of you have my
#, call me......I have some of that tape around here, I can get the part #
or scan in a pic of the pipe I wrapped.
Most of you guys just think of me still as just the Quick D guy........Not
so. I am a truck guy first and foremost......call and lets tinker.
I am still trying to figure out a cheaper/better version of the TB hat. I
am not willing to pay that much for the hat that comes with the
supercharger.
if any of you have ideas......let me know. Metal would look better, but
again we would have the heat issue..........and I am better working with
plastics and molds. I wouldnt think we would want a metal hat since its
going to be sitting in the hottest region of the compartment. I think a
better shaped plastic one would work better. Just need to clean up the
flow.
Talk to you all soon......
take care and stay safe........but always be a Quick D!!!!!
I am working on making my D a tall D.....but I will still enjoy spanking
mustangs.
I hardly ever post....but when I do....they are long....sorry.
