My 95 V6 had the slap at about 45,000 miles. Had the timing chain replaced
for about $320. It's got 63,000 miles now and still doesn't slap. I was
told that it was something to do with a coating that was on the sprockets.
Apparently it wears causing the chain to loosen. Not sure if this is the
correct reason, but it sounded good to me.
