Just installed the JC Whitney power gate lock, and it works perfectly, unlike
the Pace Edwards Powerbolt that I sent back. The Pace used a small steel bolt
from the right side, which didn't engage the handle & allowed the gate to
open( Pace knows about this, but still sells 'em anyway), but the JCW lock is
made by Pop'n'Lock, and uses a steel bar captured in a guide to lock the LEFT
side of the handle, which is keeping it locked. As I suspected, the JCW unit
is mounted on cad-plated steel bracket, while the Pace uses cheapo aluminum.
Just shows that cheaper is sometimes better!
On another JCW note, also installed their "white hot plasma" bulbs in 80/100w
rating, and I like the whitish light, but they aren't even as bright as the
factory bulbs! What's up with that? Should I have gotten the "blue ion" style
instead? I'm blind as a bat at night, and need ULTIMATE light to see where
I'm going. What's the best bulb for the most brightness?
