It pushes on the top of the springs, and pushes down. Pre-loading
does not change the lift of the truck, at least not a noticeable
amount. You have to preload the springs to get the maximum benefit of
the traction bars; however, you don't want to drive around on the
street with them pre-loaded for two reasons. One, it makes the ride
horrible, and two, it can bend your springs over time.
