Well, I'm not a Physicist. I currently make my living as an amateur
gynecologist and manager of the North Texas Home for Sexually Promiscuous
Teenage Girls, but a Game Warden (who had taken Physics in high school)
once told me that it's caused by small furry animals running across the
road at night.
