i am working on a 71 dodge 800 semi - single rear axle- it had been sitting
for over a year and after a new set of plugs, oil change and some anti-freeze
it fired right up, anyhow after running for 15 minutes it would not warm up,
the temp gauge went up slightly then bobbled back and forth about an 64th of
an inch but would not read warm, it has automatic shutters on the radiator
and they opened and closed a few times during idling and the rain was
steaming off the thin sheetmatal hood so it must have been fairly warm,
anyhow i went to napa today to get a thermostat and they couldn't find a
listing for one, my question is do the shutters serve as the thermostat? i
know i could pull the radiator hose but i just filled the radiator and would
rather not drain it if someone has any info they could pass along about this
motor, by the way its a 413 rated at 234 HP (says so on the valve cover) also
anyone looking for a spare 413?
