I thought about this with my '88. Another door handle would work in my case
with a little modification, but then how do you link the lock to the latch?

Does anybody know where I might be able to find a locking latch for my
tailgate? I know the subject has come up before, but the answer has always
been the "pop 'n' lock". That seems like a bit of a pain. Does the pop
'n' lock stay permanently mounted, or does it have to come off each time
you open the gate? Ideally I'd get a replacement handle that I could have
rekeyed to match my ignition key. Does anyone make something like this?
