Last time I worked on them (back in '92) they were putting out 130 on a 1.2L
(Carb model) and 150 off of the FI 1.3L. Open up the exhaust and add either
a bigger carb (back then) or larger injectors on the '90+ models and you're
up to 180. Add a turbo and a mild port job and they're up to 300+...still
off of a 1.3L. Also, the rotary's had rev-limiters on them to keep the
general population from racing them on the street. The actual red line
(when the limiter was disabled) was 7500 on a unmodified engine.

And they're still 2-Strokes to boot. (No, contrary to popular belief...they
are NOT 4-Stroke. The oil pan is mainly there to add oil to the fuel
mixture.)

The S2000 Honda is a nice engine design....but hell, rotary's were making
more than that from a 1.2L with a simple carb and muffler swap. The 1.3L
Turbo's are even worse...uhhh....better. ;) I don't know if Mazda ever
released the 3-Rotor, but that one was rated at 400HP from a single turbo
(1.4L)
