Tom,
  Thanks for the response. When we checked the fluid level, it was just a
'pull the plug and stick your finger in' check. Your idea was the same as
mine, so we're going to pull both the front and rear covers off this week
sometime and check for metal shavings in both.
Any idea what RTV sealant to use to seal the covers back up?
I was kinda hoping someone with an lsd could tell me whether theirs makes
noise in most turns or not.
