Hi Don,
I'm not sure if you received any responses back from the DML
on this or not, but I thought I would give you my thoughts off list.
I have yet to install my ram air hood (big frown), but have given
consiberable thought about a ram air box specifically for this
hood. It could be done with either sheet metal or ABS plastic.
Sheet metal would be cheaper to use, but ABS would yield a
better product.
However, in doing some research on ram air, it is my understanding
that an engine doesn't see any benefits of true ram air until app. 100
mph. Yes, the fresh air does help, but for the air force to the TB to
be greater than atmospheric pressure, the 100 mph mark would have to
be hit. Any speed less and you would not see any increase in performance
than that of a FIPK or open air filter.
So with that said, I don't think that the benefits of a air box justify
the cost of fabrication. I believe that enough that I made up the FIPK
clone which can be seen at my site. I am very impressed with the clone
(and would be with the K&N Gen2 or similar) over the open air filter.
Once the hood is installed, I expect to see a slight increase in performance
due to the increase of fresh air into the engine compartment.
If you are still interested in a ram air box, I can send you the
preliminary design which is only lacking specific measurements. I
ultimately thought about using this design with twin E-rams (2 psi total),
but realized the cost would be close to half of a supercharger.
Anway, let me know if you want the design specs. Also, how do
you like your new hood?

Has any one made a ram air kit for there hood before
i want one for my new hood but they don't make one for it
so i was thinking buy the parts from ramairbox.com and
make one my self, also i have a k&n gen2 so is it even worth
all the trouble(any HP gains).
thanks, don
