This might sound weird, but is the wire that goes from the battery negative
to the chassis
1) too small
or
2) very corroded? if it's corroded, then the starter might not have enough
power to turn it over. Try replacing that first...

Ps. same thing happened to a guy at work's 95 probe. we TRIED to jump start
it for 10 minutes (direct battery to battery connection, and yes, I know
that's not the absolute correct way, but what are you gonna do about it?)
anyways, I thought i'd attach the ground to teh block and it fired up right
away...
