As for choosing 3:55 with the 4:01 1st gear in the NV-3500, it took my small
block forever to post some high mph #'s. I spent most of my time speed
shifting at 6000 rpm to post good #'s. I also
experimented with a bunch of quarter mile programs which recommended the
gears were too steep
with that manual. Auto yes, not even enough for my R/T, manual, traction
problems galore. Then after pondering on this for some time, I took Pop for
a ride in it and that was the first thing he said, you need taller gears. I
won't give you his resume, but he knows his stuff. Burnout contest, no
problem, 4x4, great choice. It will take lotsa things outa the hole,
including LT1's and LSI's but they catch up fast. Most of them run 3:42 as
did most 4 speed Big block Buicks. When I put the next truck together, I
will have 2 rearends, 3:55 and 3:91. I really believe my mph could have been
over 100 with 3:55's. On the street
alot, choose the 3:91's; on a track, go with the 3:55's. Don't get me wrong,
I really like the 3:91 with the manual, you can jump coke bottles with it
;^)
