the best way to make the connection is with solder, heating bothe the wire
and the terminal end with a torch till the metal, not the flame will mealt
the solder, fill your terminal end 3/4 full with solder, then stick in the
wire, then keep the heat on it and add more solder till it is sealed. that
will give you the strongest bond with the best current flow.

PS you can find terminal ends which are the correct diam for both the welding
cable and the 0 guage, and this is the best way to attach both.
