Yes Chris that sounds just like the damage that was done to my truck. The
bed lifted up and hit the cab in an upward motion at least 1 3/4 inches above
the normal level of the bed. My wife used to work for the shipping company
that Ford uses at the Claycomo plant in Kansas City. You can bet that the
factory inspects each vehicle before they turn it over to the trucking
company. Then the trucking company checks each vehicle closely before they
sign off and accept it. Because from that point on ANY body damage discovered
AFTER that point is THEIR problem. (Unless the dealer doesn't catch it and
signs off on receipt of a damaged vehicle) I don't profess to know exactly
what happened with your truck, but I'd bet that it was damaged in shipment or
some parking lot flunky at the dealership did it and all they did was replace
the bumper and do any rear end body damage. When my truck was tagged the
insurance adjuster just looked at the back, and the side at the back and wrote
it up. He was about to go inside and I said "well what about where the bed hit
the cab?" And he acted all surprised. From that point on there was the damage
to the cab, the re-trueing of the box etc etc. I'm just saying it's a
possibility. It's much harder for damage like that to ever leave the factory
than it is for a dealership to try and send it off. Just my opinion......
as for the boogers in the paint. I have several of them too in my 2000 Dak and
that pisses me off. But I chose not to get them fixed 'cause I'm already
developing "Arizona Pinstriping" from offroading!! :-0

I don't know Tim, I wouldn't doubt what your saying is true when dealers
recieve vehicles in but we checked (my personal mechanic and I) from stem to
stern and we could not see any indication of a hit on the bumper or anywhere
on the back side of the truck. Even when I took it back to the dealer I
didn't say a word at first I just let them make their own conclusion to how
it happened and they blamed the factory. Maybe they are just trying to
cover their own ass' but like I said there was no indication that it had
backed up into anything. The whole corner where the two ends meet on the
box where the paint chipped off was turned upwards - how the hell did it get
like that? Whoever did do it is obviously not going to take credit for it
be it the factory or the dealership. The reason I have to believe what the
dealer said is that it is owned by my best friend's family whom we purchased
