First of all let me say it's nice to see another fellow Durango owner.
I'm not trying to stick up for the Ford's but since I've helped develop them there are a few things I think you should know (I work around Fords all day, but still drive a Dodge...go figure). The Lightning engine is not the DOHC version of the 5.4L, it's a SOHC. A friend of mine has one and he has a best run of 13.9 in the 1/4 and it's bone stock! However he paid around $30K...OUCH! I also know someone that has a CC Dak R/T with a few engine mods (headers, exhaust, cam, springs, etc...) no supercharger or NOS and runs consistent 13.7's, but has a lot less than $30K invested, he also has a lot more interior room than a Lightning. The 5.4L IS in a Cobra...the Cobra R that is. But, the Cobra R cannot even hang with a Corvette let alone a Viper...GO DODGE! The Lightning will hang any day on a road course with a SS/WS6 or Mustang, or even a Porsche for that matter. The Lightning is one bad ass truck and should be taken quite seriously, but don't get me wrong I would trade !
in my D for one. I agree that Dodge should look at putting a s/c'er on there R/T models, or even a turbo setup would be nice....just my $0.02.

Subject: DML: Lightning vs SS/WS6
There is no doubt that the Ford Lightning is a modern day hotrod, as it
should be with a (relatively) large displacement DOHC engine (5.4L?) and a
supercharger. I'd like to bolt a supercharger on my SS to even the odds a
little bit, since we are only 0.3L apart in displacement. The 5.4L engine is
the one that should be in the Cobra! If it was, then f-body owners would be
very nervous! As it is, even with equal straight-line performance between
the f-body cars and the Lightning, I believe that the one with the lower
center of gravity and better handling would be the more desirable of the
two in terms of performance and fun factor, for me anyway (at the cost of
cargo space, unfortunately). As much as I can appreciate the Lightning, I
will keep my SS...(and my Durango!)
Dakota Content - Hmmm...why doesn't Ma Mopar stick a supercharger on the R/T
and build a worthy competitor to the Lightning?
