pickups to fix trailer hitch

DETROIT -- DaimlerChrysler has
voluntarily
recalled about 380,000 Dodge Ram
pickups
to repair a defect in the vehicle's
towing hitch.
DaimlerChrysler said Friday that the
hitches'
side brackets were made with
substandard
steel. The recall covers 1998
through 2000
model year vehicles built between
January
1998 and September 1999.
The company said there have been no
reports
of hitches breaking as a result of
this problem.
Notification letters were mailed to
owners last
week, and they were instructed to
call their
dealers.
