Jon,
Ya know, I haven't fixed the ailing u-joint. Unfortunately, I havent had the
time, and really havent thought about it lately. I havent heard the noise
for a good month, but today heard it about 5-6 times. I really do need to
get this fixed, just have been putting it off more and more. I have located
the rear most u-joint on the front driveshaft to the be u-joint which has
'play' or 'slop' in it. The front driveshaft has 3 u-joints, one at the
front axle and 2 at the tcase. I think where the front driveshaft connects
to the tcase is called a 'CV-Style'. Whenever I do indeed drop the front
driveshaft, I am just going to take it off and take it to the shop which did
the CV Joints on my truck's axle; they will charge me $100(labor included of
course) for 3 new u-joints(all greasable Spicer's unlike the stock sealed
u-joints), new u-joint clips, all the hardware, grease, and some type of
ball cup kit, which 'should' be replaced when servicing CV style shafts. I
will definately let you know Jon as soon as I get it fixed, and if it does
cure the little man noise hammering problem.
