Hmmmm....from what I was told, you're not supposed to take the plunger apart
on the solenoid. (I have a spare floating around in my garage somewhere so
i'll take a look at it tomorrow AM.)

There's a plunger that goes into the sensor. It's covered by a small sleeve
which also retains a spring. The plunger is threaded and supposedly screws
into the sensor some place I can't see. But when I took it apart to clean
it, I didn't have to unscrew it. Point is, if it's got threads on it but I
didn't have to unscrew it to take it apart, is something amiss? Probably
run $200 just to find out from a 5 star and another $200 to replace it.
