I've found that using the chalk test or driving through a puddle to see how
wide the contact patch is gives you the best idea of the proper air pressure
to run on your rig. The manufacturer's maximum rating can hardly be relied
on to achieve the best performance especially when you consider the wide
variety of vehicle types that model of tire will be used on. Now, if they
start making the Dakota tire, the Dakota with a full load in the bed tire,
the Durango tire, the Ram tire..... well, you get the idea.
