I haven't had this happen with radials as yet (knock on wood) but
did have it on the Goodyear Polyglass tires that were OEM on my
'71 RR 340 and blew the tread apart as a result of pressure built
up as the entrapped air bubble heated up. I was travelling at less
than 75 mph when it blew.
