I use Mobil and Chevron 87 octane only. I have a 2000 SLT QC 4X2 5.9 V8
3.55 LSD. Dealer says to use 87 until I change to MP HP PCM, then go to 92.
I have noticed no pinging whatsoever.

What grade of gas is everyone running? I've run 89 in my truck and the
company car I have. I'll give the truck an occasional shot of 92 for
the injector cleaners in it. I tried running 87 in it a couple of times
and it pings like crazy on level roads and light acceleration. The other
thing is what kind of gas do you use? I've stuck pretty much to Mobil.
I'll use others when I have to but I will never use Hess in any vehicle
I drive. I have used the 89 octane for 1 tank in every vehicle I've
owned and they have pinged until I put at least a half tank of the same
grade of another gas in it. I realize different parts of the country
have different formulas of gas for different seasons so it will be hard
to do any comparisons. Just color me curious.
