I put the MPI in April (thanks to Jon Steiger's super installation kit and
instructions).

For track use, it certainly comes alive from 4000 rpms and up. Jon's '96
got quite an ET improvement (~0.3) with it. Probably, a ram/cold air system,
ported tb (725-825 cfm) and freed-up exhaust system (headers, y-pipe, single
3") would be needed to match its flow.

Afterwards, an aftermarket cam and beefed up valvetrain components would
certainly
help it reach its potential.

I had about reached the performance limit without the MPI (mild cam/ported
tb/open
air/headers/y-pipe/cat-back) and staying emissions legal. The MPI was one
of those
necessary next steps to move on although it's doubtful that it is now
emissions
legal. I added a ram/cold air unit to get a better match with the increase
flow and
went to 3.92 gears in order to reach the peak hp rpm (now at about 5000
rpm) at the traps.

Of course, all the above is strictly with normally-aspirated mods in mind.

The 4-bbl tb has around 1000 cfm or so flow and may be a bit too much for
the computer to
handle when going to sudden WOT. Also, I've read that fabrication will be
needed
to hook up to the Magnum OE tb linkages and hookups.
