body lift kit install question

I have a 2" Performance Accessories Body Lift kit that I am going to install
on my 98 4X4. As part of this installation I need to remove the 4 wheel
drive shift lever, cut it, and weld a piece in. My question is, after I
install the kit can I drive the vehicle without that lever attached while I
take it somewhere to be welded?
