The 15-second "Drain" is standard practice. It works every time. No need
to wait 5-minutes.

Yes, disconnect that negative battery terminal, wait about 5 or more
minutes,
then reconnect it. some DMLers have claimed that while the negative
terminal
is disconnected, you can drain the memory down faster by trying to turn the
truck over.
