I have a '90 Dakota, 2WD, V6 with AC. I have experienced
a "sag" or drop off in idle speed when I stop a the first
stop sign after starting the beast for years. Sometimes it
dies, sometimes it stumpbles and then idle speed is
normal. This problem has plagued me for 5 years, off and
on. After a few minutes of driving, it clears up.
But not any more. It now idles terribly, and dies
frequently. No power on small inclines, 30 mph top speed.
Smells flooded, smokes like it's burning excess fuel. I
checked the fault codes yesterday and I get 12, 34, 55.
Code 34 is "Speed control vacuum or vent control solenoid
circuit(s)". The truck does not have cruise control
installed. Can anyone point me to the correct components
to test? The fault code is very vague to me. I had a new
EGR put on a while back, that did not help. New plugs, new
fuel pump, new fuel filter, injector cleaner, different
gas, did not help either.
Could it be the idle speed control motor? Any other ideas?
Thanks for your help.
