Tire sizes?

Hey all-
Two questions:

1) My Dad's durango has the 31"x10.5" tires. Will these fit under my
truck? I've got a 2000 CC V6 2WD Auto, with the 15x8 rims and the
front and rear swaybars.

2) Stupid question: What do the numbers mean for tire sizes? i.e.
P255/65R15. Of course the 15 is the rim diameter, but what about the
other numbers?
