Wow, I just replaced mine (again) with 10k miles since my last tune-up.
Some observtions-
Cap-
The coil post, where the rotor contacts inside, was down to a tiny nub
instead of a post. All terminals were SEVERELY corroded and carboned up.
TONS of carbon tracking throughout the cap.
Rotor-
TONS of carbon tracking. Nice indentation from coil post from wear. The
tip (where it contacts the cyl. post) is pretty much toast.
Myself-
Big 'ol blood blister on my right index finger now *&%$#@!!!!!!!! (never
fails, me hurting myself somehow, it just proves I'm a true gearhead,
lol!!)
Plugs-
If it was one of my Oldsmobiles, I would've been very impressed with the
nice orange tint, but I don't think these new vehicles are supposed to
do this, or am I wrong?? Slight wear at the tips. Gapped new ones at
.045 per Bernd.
Recommendation-
KEEP A VERY CLOSE EYE ON THESE THINGS!!! I do have an MSD 6A and Accel
coil, so that just speeds up the wear process up. I know, it's a
P.I.T.A. to change every, now it will be 7k miles. But it's worth it!!!
$22 for brass cap, rotor, and Autolite plugs at Kragen.
