Anyone know of a website, etc, that may have some info on local
off-road
groups. Living in Vermont, you would think there would be plenty (over
75%
of the state is woodland, etc), but I can't find anything. I would even
consider any groups that were in upstate NY, Mass., NH. I REALLY wish
there
were more DMLer's near me, but I think Jon is the closest, and he's at
least
8 hours away. I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, want to go wheeling with some
other
DAKS, but there just aren't many others around :-(, especially DMLer's.
Any
help would be appreciated.

I don't know of any clubs in New England but I used to live in
Woodstock, VT so I had to chime in. The wheeling opportunities around
there are tremendous, a real variety of terrain. I used to just follow a
dirt road out for a while until I saw an opening in the trees off to one
side and then go exploring. Sometimes I wouldn't make it very far, one
time I got bogged in the middle of no man's woods and had to walk a good
couple miles to a farm I remembered passing, then call a wrecker to come
winch me out, pre cell phone you see. Another time I was up to the same
sort of trip and discovered a completely secluded pond in the middle of
the woods, no trails, just weaving my way through the trees. Wish I
still lived back there, I could show you a few trails. Explore the area
around Ottaquiche (sp?) Gorge, your bound to find something that'll pull
you off the road. In the meantime try this
