the intake runners are much shorter and go directly from the TB to each
intake port on the head. whereas the stock intake goes from the TB to a
box plenum then into the runners. the stock intake is a cross-ram design,
meaning that the runners for the left bank draw air from the right side of
the intake... which is just a design to allow for longer runners.
a longer runner will develop more low end torque, the shorter runners will
make more power higher in the revs, at a cost of lowend torque. However,
those of us that have installed the MPI have not felt a noticeable loss of
low-end power.
