I'd say run with the retard....running rich will kill your engine over time,
caking everything in a carbon-deposit mess. If you're only retarding 1
degree per boost, I'd say you're on the lucky side, especially with these
detonation-prone magnums. What you can do is purchase a spray kit (not sure
exactly what they're called). It consists of a water resevoir, a pump and a
spray nozzle. When a button is pushed, it sprays a mist of water into the
intake and cools the intake charge. Not only that, but the water vapor
decreases the A/F's ability to burn, therefore essentially "increasing" the
octane level.
    If I was to go that route, I'd hook it up with an MSD RPM switch that
would set the thing off at an RPM where the detonation begins. After that,
the only thing you'd have to do is fill the resevoir probably twice a month.
