We looked all over the transmission and couldn't find one anywhere
(automatic). From what I found, there's no speedo-gear on the automatics
from '98 on up. (Don't know about the 5spds...but i've even looked at a '99
and we couldn't find one there either.)

except that the PCM needs to be reflashed with a tire size change.

but what was written reads like it came from a FSM (?).
I had always thought that changes were made to the '99 and newer Daks
since when I got a speedo pinion gear for 235/75s with 3.55, the
parts person had to look up in his computer the listings for the '98.
But you have worked on your buddies' '98 and say that there is no
gear on the tranny.
I'll be going to the parts dept. for a number of things in the next week
or two and will see what he knows about it (he's pretty knowledgeable
about how things work and what is needed to make them work).
