BMW's aren't all that great in a short sprint, but they really are great at high speed racing, like on the Autobahn. My friend owns a '95 BMW M3 (lightened edition) and it can take express way corners at over 120 mph with no problem. You can actually accelerate in the corner and it will hold, and yes there is plenty of acceleration left even at 120 mph. But as far as 1/4 mile he runs high 13's / low 14's. But it's also about a $50K+ car.
