I saw a guard at Poop Girls today (don't recall the name, I think it was

a DeeZee) up close and personal and you are very, very right. The
"mass-market" guards are good for nothing more than looks, maybe some
parking lot protection, and the occasional shrubbery. I had looked at
those from a distance before but always had in the back of my mind "that

thing can't be strong." Everything out there for Daks that I've seen is

a frame mount (maybe because we don't have a suitable bumper?

Your right, most of the cheaper ones are crap. Thin steel, bolted
together. I spent a lot of time researching my purchase, as I always do,
and found the GoRhino to be exceptionally strong compared to the others.
I looked at DeeZee, SmityBuilt, Steel Horse, Westin, WAAG, and some
others. They were all worthless. I've used my tow hooks many times, for
both pulling and using my hand winch to get it out of the mud a couple
times, and the guard hasn't ever moved. I tip the scales at 230something
and I can sit with all my weight on the outside "ear" pieces that wrap
around the lights, I can stand on the bottom cross member and jump up
and down, the whole truck moves but absolutely no give in the guard. I
wouldn't jerk on it trying to get someone unstuck but for pulling and
winching and sitting on at a ball game it's just fine. When I first got
it I took it to a welder friend who said he could fab up a winch mount
between the lower brackets that would be sufficiently strong, haven't
done it yet but it's on the list. I have a set of 130W KCs mounted on
there now, and during the holidays I like to have fun with it. During
Hollowed I zip tie a Jack-O-Lantern to it, complete with a green glow
stick, Thanksgiving it's a frozen turkey, and Christmas it's a wreath
with a set of battery operated lights, wish there were more holidays.

Now if you've got a grand or so to spend I'd recommend a Reunel
http://www.reunel.com/. Very solid, and you can get them with many
options, I like the High-Lift and Axe mounts. My buddy has one of these
on his Ford that's coated with green Line-X to match his truck.

Good luck with the purchase, there's definitely lots to choose from.

Chris
