       That IS correct..  so that means be sure to NOT engage the 4WD when on 
hard ground.    I saw an article on the IH Scouts; and these guys are 
modifying thier T-cases so they can shift the front into high, and the rear 
into low, or any other given combinations.   If you're in very adverse 
conditions. there are times it can help.  
       As Ted has said..   when you're in 2wd.. You ARE in TWO wheel drive.  T
he front differential is not engaged, and could care less what ratio the 
truck is rolling along with.  It's just there for the ride.  No different 
that towing it with the rear lifted off the ground and the front wheels 
rolling.
       But..   it is highly recommended to have front and rear the same 
ratio..  You may take it in somewhere (valet or etc) and have some moron 
decide to play with the 4wd.
