Headers 'N Lifts

Hi folks,
I'm a newbie to this list and have a few questions. I've gone through the
archives and listened in for a while, but i'm interested in any opinions
that DMLers may have re lifting my 99 2wd 5.2 Dak. Oh, and trying to
shoehorn in some 10.5x31 tires. I've been considering the Fabtech kit;
however, I have two main concerns with it. First, I want to maintain a
decent service life with the steering components. Mainly the rack and
pinion. I just raised the truck the other day (with a floor jack) approx
3 in (the advertised lift of the kit) and the angle of the tie rods seems
pretty extreme. This considering the larger tires and frequent trips to
the desert---hauling dirtbikes, no heavy offroading----has me raising my
eyebrows.
Secondly, I am concerned about downward suspension travel---called
Fabtech and they say that there's only 3/4" downward travel!?!----that
sound downright dangerous for highway driving.
If I had it my way, I'd go for a spindle lift ..........but , I understand
that no one has produced such an animal ..........yet --I hope. So there
you have it --any input is appreciated.
oh ya, by the way, anyone running JBA or Gibson headers on their 318

Regards,
Ken H.
