A friend of mine suggested that I wire my radar detector into the lights
in the overhead console on my '99. I'm sure there's some way you could
wire it up such that it doesn't require the lights to be on. You may
have to turn it on/off yourself, though.

As for the scanner, you may be able to wire it similarly to a CB. Check
your manual.

'98s don't have the second power plug in the dash next to the cigarette
lighter?
