Definetly don't use it when pulling. Some guys say it doesn't hurt
anything, but EVERY truck I've owned (including 5 speeds) say do not use
overdrive when towing. I wouldn't use it when doing a lot of city driving
either. Your friend is right, it shifts too much. Besides, overdrive is
basically for fuel economy. I doubt that you'll even get into overdrive
(50-55+ mph) to save fuel in the city. Go ahead and kick it out, or
whatever you do in a 99. You won't be hurting anything and your mileage
won't suffer since you should be staying mainly under 45 mph.
