Isn't it somewhere around 125db where it's illegal? I remember something
like that but from CA though.

(Could be mistaken on the level though.)

Subject: DML: some cops just (muffler noise)

I checked today with our veichle inspector at the official State of Texas
inspection station where I work and asked about muffler noise and
inspections. He
got the book and showed me that in Texas the emission control device (cat)
must be
in place and the system must not leak. Other than that the exhaust system
is off
limits to inspectors. The DPS officer that is in charge even specifically
told our
inspectors that noise level was not a reason to reject a veichle from
inspection as
long as the system did not leak. He said noise violations are up to the
police
department in any area and not the inspection stations. Also unless your
veichle
is registered in one of the large metro areas like Dallas-FtWorth or Houston
that
no sniffer or other than visual inspection of emission systems is to be
performed
either. There may be a better place to live but I don't know where it would
be.
