RE: No Slamming people, just advice for me please

I got a 96 3.9 Auto and I've towed with the 3923s. It eliminated the ping I
used to get when pulling the boat. I've also got a K&N and wasn't a
noticable difference in loss of torque but I've got the open element sitting
on the top of the engine, not the tube.

What would be the downfalls to driving mostly stop & go conditions
with these plugs?

And what about low-end torque? I've seen these plugs referred to as
a performance mod - but it appears that a lot of performance mods tend
to kill the low-end torque, which is a bad thing for towing, or stop & go
conditions as well I suppose. A couple years back, the big news was to
install the open element air filters, and people were hyping up on how
their performance had increased, even on the V6s. I installed the 10" one,
with a standard non-K&N filter, and lost a substantial amount of low-end.
People told me it was because I wasn't using a K&N, but I can't believe it
since I tested the low-end with NO air filter, and it performed about the
same as with the 10" paper filter - like a slug. I put the stock air hat
back on, and had my low-end back immediately. I think the guy that posted
the technical info about the stock air hat hit the nail on the head. The
stock stuff may look inadequate, but the engineers do use scientific
calculations when they design this stuff.

I've got a stock V6 in need of a tuneup, and it pings on 87 octane. I
don't tow on a regular basis, but I don't want to lose any low-end just
to alleviate the ping - I would rather use 89 in that case. Any advice
is appreciated.
