I've heard lots of wheelin' guys talk about having 12.5" wide tires on an 8"
wide rim. Now, they say that in an off-road setting, the tire stays on the
rim better while under much lower tire pressure--> like 10 psi.
BUT!!! I have no idea how this would affect on road performance.
Currently i've got 32x11.5-15 on my stock 15x8 rims and have had no problems
with the combination off-road, highway, and hard turns around town. So if
you mount the 31x10.5 on your 7" rims, you will have basically the same
ratio of wheel/tire that i have and you shouldn't have any problems either.
Good luck,
